The commander's handbook
Select your Keep to train Homesteaders. Select a Homesteader and right-click a tree, berry bush, or mine to gather. Build, expand, and destroy the opposing settlement.
With units selected, a small symbol beside the pointer previews the order: an axe for wood, a deer for hunting, a food basket for gathering, a pickaxe for mining, and a hammer for construction. The Move tool, queued waypoints, and attacks have their own symbols; ordinary right-click movement has no pointer badge. The same symbol briefly marks the destination when you issue the order; touch orders show this confirmation as well.
Click a tree, food patch, mineral deposit, or completed farm to see the resources remaining in that individual patch. Counts update as workers gather; amounts outside your current sight are unavailable.
Builders walk to the site before construction begins. Work pauses when they leave. Right-click an unfinished building with Homesteaders selected, or use Help build, to resume or assist without paying again.
Shift+right-click on ground adds movement waypoints. With Move active, Shift+left-click adds a waypoint and keeps Move active for the next one. Each unit can hold up to 24 queued destinations in addition to its active destination. Ordinary movement replaces the route; Stop clears it.
The compact control-group strip in the header shows groups 1–9 and their live unit counts. Gold slots exactly match your selection. Hover or focus a slot to inspect its unit-type roster and sprites in a popup. On touch screens, tap a slot or the Groups toggle to inspect. Press Escape, use the popup's close button, or tap away to dismiss it. Assignment and recall confirmations remain visible above the slots in the header.
Click an assigned slot to recall it, or an empty slot to assign your selected units. Shift-click adds a group to your selection. Ctrl/Command-click replaces a group; Ctrl/Command+Shift-click adds selected units to it. Use Ctrl on Windows/Linux or Command on Mac for the shortcuts below.
On touch screens, select a unit, choose Move, Gather, or Attack move in the command dock, then tap a destination. Replays: Space plays or pauses, [ / ] seek, and - / + change speed.
The speaker button opens sound settings. Enable original movement, work and battle effects, adjust their volume, or mute them. Sound starts only after your interaction and your preferences are saved.
